In reply to Andrew. Thanks Andrew, the suffering extent will never be truly known, although I can comment that we are still suffering from our dogs deaths. As far as I am aware, there were 27 dogs who died and over 70 affected and many still suffering liver damage and other effects of the toxic meat.

Like Molly Patton, our two dogs were killed by the meat from the Maffra Knackery after unethical practices with meat sold as beef. Although they are guilty by confession of compensation, they have not lost a minutes income from their questionable practices, which should be addressed by people who can make a difference. There were government departments involved in the investigation and it went no further. I now only feed human grade meat and use pasta and veg as the bulk instead of kibble, as I don’t trust that either from the reports of 2017/8 Mars Megaoesophagus debacle. I am still shattered by the senseless deaths of two beautiful Greyhounds who didn’t deserved a hideous death.

In reply to Pauline. Hi Pauline. It’s hard feeding dogs with a chicken intolerance as nearly all commercial foods will contain it. What you’re doing sounds good, though of course I can’t comment on the balance of the diet. There are also commercial diets you can buy that either are lacking in chicken or have been treated with proteolytic enzymes to reduce the antigenicity of the chicken. The most extreme forms are listed on our page about elimination diets.

Both my dogs have chicken intolerance, I was buying human grade chicken and steaming it served with veggies etc. I was feeding mostly chicken because I thought it the safest. Both dogs are good on crocodile and kangaroo. I buy minced kangaroo human grade from supermarket which is generally cooked with veggies etc but sometimes served raw. Is this safe for my dogs. I find the commercially prepared one protein crocodile product very expensive as a long term feeding regime.

Thanks for shining a light on this. My dog was one of the dogs killed in this saga and my family’s dog is still fighting ongoing health issues. As wrong as it is that the pet food industry is not better regulated, it seems educating pet owners on things to look out for is the most effective way forward to ensure our beloved fur family stays safe and healthy.
