I mostly agree with your comments about the matters you address. However human private health cover - often offered by the same companies that are agents for pet insurance - covers pre existing conditions once a waiting period has been served.
Also the policy statements can be seen as disingenuous where they describe eligible servic s. Eg our dogs’ covers state prostheses (eg hip replacements) require “pre authorisation” prior to surgery. I went to great lengths to provide this - sending Vet reports and X-rays plus dog’s history indicating not pre existing only to receive a quick email in return stating prosthetics were exclusions. This was absolutely dishonest representation and when I challenged this they offered an ex gratia payment that was no where near the 80% rebate the policy offered. The insurer’s pockets are much deeper than mine so I accepted this. However whilst researching I noticed a lawyer in Victoria was working on developing a case against this insurer.
Although I was disgusted by this - it was the first claim I had made despite having insurance for both my dogs for 5 years - I have maintained the insurance for peace of mind.
