Hi Lena. Whatever the cause, as long as it’s an external parasite it should respond to an isoxazoline (Simparica, Bravecto, NexGard, Credelio).

I moved from the Riverland to Millicent with my 2 very healthy dogs, a miniature chihuahua and a larger foxy chihuahua cross. Within a week the foxy x was biting his tail end and a few days later his rear end looked very mangy. I noticed similar conditions on other dogs in my area. My chihuahua showed no discomfort or symptoms. I was told that this area had 'mange' mites in the grass and there wasn't much that prevented this from affecting my dog. Regular bathing and a spray with tea tree oil in it helped somewhat but poor fella still appears to be experiencing some discomfort. Had I been aware of this infestation here I would never have moved here.
