This sounds like what my rat is going through. What antibiotic did you use and where can I get it?

Hi Emma. Most of the time, it’s hard to see the breathing at all when a rat is breathing normally. If it’s noticeable, and especially if it’s more noticeable than the other rats, or if the abdomen is also moving, then it’s probably too heavy.

Hi Marli. I’m sorry I can’t comment on individual drugs. What is used in each case will depend on the vet.

Thanks William. I greatly appreciate the comment- I had to remove the name of the drug as it's by prescription over here but I've no doubt you're right.

As a retired rat breeder, I've learned a few unorthodox tricks of the trade over the years. To reverse micoplasm, it's pretty simple: If the problem is brought to attention, right away, a teaspoon of [antibiotic] is administered, once a day, the disease subsidies rather quickly. However, the disease never goes away. This is the best method that I've found. Just administer 1 teaspoon of [antibiotic] daily, until the symptoms go away. Usually takes 2-3 days. On the plus side, most rats enjoy the taste. And it's not difficult to feed to them. My method is a great alternative to euthanasia. Story: I bought a baby rat from a pet store. He became extremely ill by the 2nd day. I called the pet store about it. They told me to come back and trade him in for another rat and they'll put the one I bought to sleep. I refused, since the little guy had a wonderful personality. After he got well, he grew to be a jumbo sized well mannered pet. I did stud him out and most of the offspring lived long healthy lives. As for my huge buddy, Mr. Mouse, he lived to be 4 years old. He only got sick, twice, the entire life span of 4 years. So I know it works. Tried and true.
