Hi Rebeccah. Everything I know is in the article, and especially to stress the importance of finding a positive dog training school that does not rely on choker chains.

Hi, do you have any suggestions for an American staffy? She about 25kg and I really struggle to walk with her. She gets super excited to get out of the house and pulls the lead for the whole hour we walk to the point I have to wrap it around my waist to hold on ( I have very weak hands from carpal tunnel), she ends up pulling so hard that she is in pain the next day in her back knees. She doesn’t pull for my husband but he also uses a chock chain and I refused to with the way she pulls. After doing some research I realised that what I have been “advised” has made walking her harder. She is 8 (but has the energy of a dog half her age) and while we play a lot in the yard and have a big backyard I really want to be able to take her out for walks, to the dog wash without both of us getting stressed and anxious.

Hi Mary. You’re doing the right thing and trying to train your dog to have it put on at home. There really isn’t one muzzle that’s any better and I would follow your vets’ advice so that they are happy with the one you are using. It’s more about slow gradual training to accept its use at home in a non-stressful environment before it is used at the vet. Good luck.

Do you have any suggestions on what type of muzzle is good for a Rhodesian Ridgeback? She growls, barks and snaps at her vet making any service impossible. They have muzzles but she was so scared and aggressive I couldn't get it on.
Now he has given me trazadone ,we are trying it and she is sleepy but will not let me touch her toes for more than a few seconds. So I am thinking if I could put a muzzle on and also use the trazadone we might be able to proceed with an appointment.
Thanks
