Hi Judy. Unlike in the human, melanoma in dogs is slow to metastasise. Therefore, removal of smaller tumours is usually curative. The exception to this is melanoma in the mouth.

Hi my 11 year old JR has melanoma. It was really tiny had to hunt for it but grown rapidly oval in shape very dark and crusty. The vet has taken bloods because of a heart murmur un sure if surgery is an option.
If no surgery how long will my JR survive. With surgery will this cure her? Thank you

Hi Cindy. It’s good you’re getting it checked out. Thyroid disease causes one skin disorder, which is a generalised oedema not at all like what you describe.

I have a Yorkie that has to take thyroid medicine her skin his rough and bumpy. But she has 2 different raised bumps that looks like about 5 tiny beads. It isn't discolored, I taking her in to get checked out.
I'm really concerned it could be cancer. But could it be from the thyroid issues?

Hi Mary. There’s nothing you can do but have them removed. I hope you’ve stopped your dog from sunbathing to reduce the rate of recurrence.

Hi my dog has a lump on his cheek it’s very rough round the edges. It looks like someone has literally glued a piece fur onto him. It’s not weeping, bleeding or itchy. What do you think it could be?
