Hi Katherine. I don’t have much to say other than in the article. As I say, sometimes a very long course of doxycycline will cure a percentage of these cats, others will remain with the discharge for life, but it usually slowly improves over the years.

Hi Michelle. Your vet is probably right, but I would suggest trialling a course of doxycycline. It’s an antibiotic of lower importance, and it can be more effective against some of the upper respiratory bacterial pathogens.

My two Sphynx kittens have had symptoms of sneezing with watery, squinty eyes along with some yellow discharge for weeks. They are now on their second round of clavamox along with an eye ointment. They are otherwise healthy, eating, drinking and playing. The vet said the first time it was viral now they are saying it’s bacterial. I supplement with Lysine and fortiflora. I’m not sure what else to do other than find a new vet that will investigate further. Help!
