In reply to Helena Mulder. Hi Helena. You should actually only breed a bitch once per year. Regarding breeders laws, they vary so much that they are outside the scope of this article but should be easy to find in your area.

This has been very informative.
So am probably one of those backyard breeders. I have a Dutch Shephard/Belgian Malinois who is 2yrs old in June.
She is very healthy and would like to breed her with the same breed or pure bred Dutch Shephard. I’m just not sure what I need to do legally wise. I do not intend to breed more then twice a yr, maybe only once tbh.

In reply to Bev Fernee. Hi Bev. That’s usually one of the greatest problems, and many people fail to ever find a suitable mala, as nearly every pet dog has been desexed. All you can do is spread your net far and wide.

I have a little bitch that my daughter would love to get a puppy from. She is a toy breed – moodlexchihuahua, 12 months old. She has just been in season and I need to wait another 6 months for her next breeding time. I tried, unsuccessfully to see if a chihuahua breeder was willing to allow her to be mated with a dog from their stud stock and promptly and rudely told “no way”. How do I manage to find a willing breeder?
